How does Cryotherapy work?

Cryotherapy for skin tag removal works by freezing the skin tag using a cold substance called liquid nitrogen. The extreme cold temperature immediately destroys the skin tag's cells, causing it to freeze and eventually fall off.

During the procedure, the cryotherapy applicator is directed onto the targeted skin tag, delivering a controlled burst of freezing temperature. This freezes the tissue deep within the skin tag, cutting off its blood supply and effectively getting rid of it.

The freezing process typically takes only a few seconds and is known for being quick, efficient, and relatively painless. Following cryotherapy, the treated area may develop a scab or blister but heals naturally within a short time.

Is cryotherapy safe for removing skin tags?

Yes, cryotherapy is considered to be a highly safe and effective method for removing skin tags. However, like any procedure, there may be some minimal risks involved, such as temporary skin discolouration or blistering, though these are rare.

Following the cryotherapy treatment, it is normal to experience redness and swelling in the treated area. Additionally, a small blister may form, which eventually dries up and forms a scab. Scarring is extremely rare but can occur if the treated area is not cared for properly. It's essential to follow the aftercare instructions provided.

Is the Procedure Painful?

The procedure usually causes minimal discomfort. You may experience a brief stinging or burning sensation at the site of the treatment, but it subsides quickly. The level of discomfort varies from person to person, but most clients find it tolerable.

How long does it take for skin tags to fall off after Cryotherapy?

Following cryotherapy treatment, the treated skin tag usually shrinks and falls off within 1 to 2 weeks. After the tag falls off, you may notice some residual redness or slight signs of healing that will gradually improve over time.

Precautions to take Prior to Treatment:

Before undergoing cryotherapy, it is imperative that you obtain medical sign off to clarify that the lesion(s) to be treated are benign and are safe to remove. It is equally important to inform me of any existing health conditions, allergies, or medications you are taking. It's crucial to discuss your medical history to ensure that you are a suitable candidate for the procedure.
